NRL Partnership Committee

To the NRL Partnership Committee,

I am a North Sydney Bears tragic and proud of it. This letter is in relation to your up coming decision as to wether the NRL competition should expand to 16 teams.

No doubt you have heard many arguments about a 16th team. Indeed my general view can be easily seen at my own website www.redandblackzone.com and go to the Editorial Section. But I would like to relate to you a dream I had only a matter of a few days ago in an effort to help you understand how strongly I and many people feel about the issue.

I arrived at the North Sydney Club to deliver some photos and came across Greg Florimo and Geoff Simmonds. Both turned to me with strained looks on their faces. Then Greg told me the horrible news – the Bears would not be the 16th team.

I lost it. I stormed out of the Club got in my ute and drove to NRL headquarters at Moore Park, walked in and demanded to see David Gallop. I then let it fly. With tears streaming down my face and crying I shouted the following “You barstards don’t care about anybody’s feelings, you don’t care about history or tradition. Why can’t we have our Bears back, we did everything you wanted us to do. How much hell do we have to go through”.

I went on like this for a fare few minutes all the time pacing the floor and waving my arms. Eventually I had to be escorted by two security guards out of the building. David Gallop appeared somewhat sympathetic even the two security guards seemed sympathetic me.

Shaking uncontrollably I managed to hop in the truck and drive back to the Club were I proceeded to tell Greg Florimo what I had done and to apologise. At that point Greg got a phone call from David Gallop enquiring about me and asking if he could speak to me. I said “If he thinks it’s really worth while”. Greg then said “He’s on his way here”.

This is how the dream finished.

I don’t really know what this dream means apart from proving to you that your decision will personally affect me and many supporters like me.

So I must implore you, indeed beg you that when you sit down to make your decision as to whether to expand the competition please consider the feelings and opinions of people such as myself.

Yours Sincerely,
Big-Steve
