RUGBY LEAGUE WEEK - 27/4/2005

Last week’s letter on the plight of the mighty North Sydney Bears obviously got a few of you thinking. It seems even fans of their old adversary Manly would like to see the Bears resurrected.

Congratulations to the powers that be in rugby league on the enforcing of the salary cap and the continuing strength of competition in the NRL.

Regardless of who you support, the level playing talent among the 15 clubs is the best thing to happen to rugby league since DaIly M and the boys saw the light and started playing the greatest game of them all.

To see the Bulldogs, Roosters and Broncos not dominating, while Manly, Canberra, Wests Tigers and the Sharks make a mark is fascinating for all league fans.

And I can only suggest it is a great time to introduce two new teams in the form of the Gold Coast and the Central Coast (who will hopefully bring back the famous name of the mighty Bears who were so unfairly driven out of our game in 1999).

As a Manly supporter who traditionally Loved beating the Bears — who I feel are as much part of rugby league as Souths and the Roosters — or having a beer and a pie on a Sunday afternoon watching footy, I feel that is the most opportune time to bring in both teams.

They wilL both be competitive because of the salary cap and there is a fantastic chance that must be taken to bring back one of the foundation teams to the game via the Central Coast — a region crying out for a team they can call their own

Give me beer and a pie along with Manly beating the Bears, and Life will be as it should be!
