The NRL Acknowledges The Worth Of The Bears

BIG-STEVE'S RED & BLACK SITE - 10/12/03

The NRL has announced that tickets are now on sale for The Rugby League World Sevens Next Year. It is to have Twenty six teams, a new tournament format, exciting rule changes and a new sponsor - Cougar Bourbon - that will give Sevens Rugby League a whole new look from January 24, 2004.

But curiously there is this paragraph;

The Qualifying tournament also features the return of THE NORTH SYDNEY BEARS as they join the Newtown Jets, the Balmain Tigers, Western Suburbs, NSW Country and Indigenous Australian teams.

While the Bears efforts to relocate to the Central Coast only a matter of a few years ago, seem to be  unacknowledged by the NRL, the Bears  name must be of some worth to them, because they are using it to promote one of there events.

While the red and capitals are my idea the fact that the Bears are once again in the Sevens is clearly being highlighted. Now you could take a cynical view and be insulted by the fact that the NRL has till now refused to let the Bears back in the NRL but is still prepared to use the Bears name to promote the game BUT! I think this should be seen as an attempt by the NRL to acknowledge that people are still interested in seeing the Bears play.

So let's not waste the opportunity. Email us and get your T-shirts and your stickers, make up some banners and get down to St Marys on January 21st (and hopefully Aussie Stadium on 24th and 25th) and support the Bears.

BIG-STEVE
