A disappointing first half from the North Sydney Premier League team
against Parramatta on Sunday could not ellipse the talent of Norths
half back and captain Ben Black.
Former League great and now Bears Coach Gary Larson felt Parramatta had
"The skill the speed and defence" to win. A combination the Bears were
unable to match in the first half with the Bears only try scored by
Namila Davui to make it 32-6 at half-time with a conversion by Scott
McLean.
"I wasn't happy with some individual efforts in defence," said coach
Larson who was one of the most consistantly committed players to
defence that the game has ever seen. "we took wrong options not
completing our sets of six tackles."
In the second half however the Bears fought back inspired by two
outstanding trys by Ben Black. His consistent ability to read the play
and surprise the opposition is a sight to behold and it would be no
surprise to see "Blacky" back in the NRL before long. The final score
was 46-18.
Gary claimed Central Coast recruit and players players Matt Thurston
"was outstanding and played above his size and weight. Ben Black scored
two spectacular trys. Brad McLean performed well and Wayne McDade could
get be in the starting line up next match."
The Bears next match is against South Sydney at Aussie Stadium. Anyone
wishing to witness the class of Ben Black are advised to attend.
Parramatta 46 ( Smith 2, L Hopkins 2, C Muckert, M Gruszka, B Anderson,
M Kaufusi, M Witt tries M Witt 5 goals) defeated North Sydney 18 (B
Black, N Davui tries S Mclean 3 goals).
