was how Greg Florimo described Ben Black's performance on Saturday. Photo:

We know they were capable of it and on Saturday against the Cronulla
Sharks the Bears Premier League team fulfilled all our expectations
that was simply outstanding.
"Well, outstanding, fantastic, amazing, all the superlatives you can
think of" was Greg Florimo's first reaction when asked about the match.
"It was a Queensland style of match, it reminded me of one of those
great Queensland wins at the very end of a match" Flo, a former State
of Origin Rep for NSW commented.
The match started very differently from how it finished however when
Norths prop Brad McLean was sent from the field for a head high in the
very first tackle of the game. Despite the loss Captain and half Ben
Black rallied his troops to cover the gap with impressive defense to
keep Cronulla to an 8-0 lead in the first half.
In a situation that would disappoint any team, let-a-lone a team with
one man down, by the 60 minute mark the Sharks had again added 2 more
trys to make it 20-0.
But this was no ordinary Bears team that the Sharks meet on the day as
Norths scored two quick trys first from quality benchman Matt Thurston
then from zippy winger Tristan Ramsay. Experienced Scott McLean
converted both to make it 20-12.
With 2 minutes on the clock centre Scott McLean, back from missing the
match against Manly scored and converted to make it 20-18.
"We thought, 'could they do it, could they do it'" Flo said. And boy
did they do it!
Hooker Ben Fisher scored right on the bell and with Scott McLean’s
conversion the final score was 24-20 to the Bears.
Greg Florimo had this to say about half Ben Black, "He had his best
game. If he keeps playing at the level he played no NRL side will be
able to over look him. Outstanding!". Praise in deed from a rugby
league legend.
Flo also named talented Scott McLean as a standout suggesting a spot
back in the NRL maybe on the cards for him also.
Greg also named Matt Thurston as showing great exuberance when he took
the field.
In other games The Jersey Flegg team lost 26-6 to the Cronulla Sharks.
Try to Johnathon Russell, goal to Lee Temaari. The SG Ball lost to
Newcastle 46-8 and despite some tough defense the Harold Mathews team
lost to Newcastle 18-8.
