It's Amazing What You Can't Do Without The Ball

BIG-STEVE'S RED & BLACK SITE - 22/2/04

Overall the Bears were disappointing only coming good in the last quarter.  Photo: STEVE LITTLE

The first of three games in the Frank Hyde Cup was played on Saturday afternoon at Henson Park.

Foundation clubs the Newton Jets and the North Sydney Bears played under surprisingly pleasant Sydney conditions, the Jets winning 20-12.

At times the Bears showed good skills but for the first 3 quarters they could not hold on to the ball often giving away penalties and while the penalty count was high they really needed to concentrate on holding on to the ball rather than argue with the ref.

The Jets on the other hand were stringing it together well.

In the last quarter it came together for the Bears (they finally looked the team they really are) scoring their second try a good looking one by Ben Black. But with 3 minutes left the revival was too late.

See the final score in the Draws-Results Section.
