The North Sydney Bears did not make the finals of the 2004 World Sevens qualifying tournament but they did not disgrace their fans as they came up against an Aboriginal side that boasted a number of first grade talents and a stronger than expected American Samoa side.

The first match began with a strong defensive showing from Ben Fisher and Namilla Davi as they forced back the Aboriginal attack a number of meters. However within a short time the NASCA Aboriginal All Stars scored.

But not to be beaten the Bears managed to control the match on a number of occasions. With two minutes on the clock the Bears were within  reach of a win but the Aboriginals gained possession and scored a try.

Assistant Coach and Football Club Manager Greg Florimo said that the boys had a their opportunities but maybe took the wrong options on occasions especially in the last two minutes as the wrong option lead to a change in possession and the Aboriginals final two tries.

Final score
NASCA Aboriginal All Stars 22, North Sydney 11.

In the second of North Sydneys' matches The American Samoa team put in a strong showing. Apart from allowing a soft try to the opposition the Bears were at times exciting and entertaining including a well constructed try by Ben fisher.

Head Trainer Guy Williams felt that some of the young players showed great courage in tackling the Samoan defence.

Final score North Sydney 24, American Samoa 20.

Greg Florimo singled out new recruit Davi Namilla and experienced ex-Manly and Souths signing Scott McLean. Greg also thanked Sevens organiser Taz Baileri for the chance to play and wished him all the best for the rest of the tournament.

All the coaching staff agreed that the Sevens was a good way to start the season and based on the performance all looks well for the coming year.
